May 14, 2024, 7:00PM

Call to Order by Richard Terry, President at 7:00PM
Minutes of Meeting: Minutes of the April 9, 2024 were read and approved.
Treasurer’s Report:

The TU Annual Activity Report is available for review. TU National files with the IRS on behalf of the local
chapter. Richard Terry prepares estimates for volunteer work to use by National in preparing the Annual
Activity Report.
Announcements
 Dick McKinney: Dick passed away 4/30/2024. His talents and contributions to TU will be missed as he
was one of the original members of the local TU Chapter.
 Wilson Woods: Richard Terry recounted the efforts made by Mike Wilson such as installation of
deflectors in the Pennypack Creek and plantings of trees in the Pennypack headwaters at College
Settlement in Horsham and trees from College Settlement in the Trust. A portion of the Trust in the
vicinity of the deep pool is designated Wilson Woods in his honor. Consider a plaque being placed to
identify Wilson Woods.
 Trout in the Classroom: Fishing is taught to school children from 2 nd grade through high school at the Fox
Chase Farm and Lorimer Park on Wednesdays and Fridays for 8 weeks to 8 schools. One hundred fish in
the 3 to 4 inch range were stocked in Karen’s Run last Tuesday.
 Terwood Run: A tributary to the Pennypack Creek that runs through the Huntingdon Valley County Club
golf course to the Target store in Abington was discussed as having high quality water.
Break and Raffle
Activity: Aquatic Macroinvertebrates
All participated in an activity to locate and
identify macroinvertebrates in soil and water
samples taken from Terwood Run by PERT
staff. The macroinvertebrates were identified
and categorized as pollution tolerant or not.
Based on the creatures found, it was
determined that Terwood Run is a healthy
stream.

TU Meeting Minutes 12/13/2022



Tuesday, December 13, 2022

  •  Meeting called to order at 19:09 by Rich Terry - 13 members present at start of meeting
  •  Minutes from November provided by John Beck, read and accepted
  •  Treasurer's Report provided by Dennis O'Gara, read and accepted
  •  Trout in the Classroom
    o 6 schools, receiving eggs 2nd week in January o So far, things appear to be on track
  •  The Chapter has 9 Orvis Fly Rods that are setup and members can borrow to use for teaching people to fish
  •  Chapter has also received 4 completely setup lanyards with tippets, etc
  •  Contact Rich to borrow them
  •  Polar Bear Outing is on 1/14 - fish from 10-12, and then to Miller's Ale House for lunch
  •  Friday after Thanksgiving, 2 people were fishing with Powerbait and pulled out 10 fish
    Fishing in the Trust is still good, but challenging!
  •  Chapter Website
  •  TU468.org domain wasn't renewed and domain was lost
    TU468.com is active and being maintained
    Primary use has been with donation collections for stocking, but we are trying to make it more relevant
  •  Lou Wentz (author) had written a book called "Tributaries" and provided a copy to the chapter to share
  •  Rich has marked up maps of the Trust for newer members - they are available
  •  New members (Nicholas and Wally) attended for the first time
  •  We are planning a flea market for the March meeting
  •  No monthly meeting in February
  •  Fly Tying classes planning to start again in February, planned for every Tuesday night from 7-9 PM
  •  Meeting adjourned approximately 19:30
